State of Internet in USA

FCC in a report on the broadband stimulus plan released some info that will reveal the state of internet in the United States. Here are a few stats from the report

  • Actual broadband speed is only 50% of the advertised speed
  • 3-6 million Americans have not been served even basic broadband (768 kbps)
  • 4% of Americans have no broadband connectivity due to geography
  • 33% of Americans with access to broadband have not adopted
  • 66% of Americans have adopted broadband at home
  • Internet is the primary research tool for homeworks to close to 70% of high school students
  • 82% of high income users have purchased online. Only 29% of low income users have done so.
