South Africa has for long been one of the underperformers when it came to internet penetration. That is finally changing as more companies are making the shift from dial up to broadband and also as the number of ECN licensees are being increased. Here are some recent statistics about internet penetration in the country

Number of internet users at the end of 2009 : 5 million
Number of internet users by end of 2010 : 6 million (estimated)
