Facebook is still private, so the financial information is not officially released. However, founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed a few critical information recently at a conference.
Revenues for 2007 : $150 million
Revenues for 2008 : $350 million (projected)
CapEx in 2008 : $200 milllion
EBIDTA for 2008 : $50 million
The head count shall increase from 450 at the end of 2007 to 1000 by the end of 2008.

i’ll pay if they remove the ads and phony spam clovers. I don’t think it would be that lucrative for them now. I have so much time to spend on fb because i’m on unemployment w god knows how many other people. If it does happen i’m sure a “fb 2″ would emerge anyway.

They are not going to ever charge for Facebook, they can’t but you people get your panties in bunch because some idiot starts a rumor. These are the same rumors that start about every website with decent traffic since the dawn of the net….WAKE UP!
Ok, In a sense I agree with you Tim. Yet since federal legislature is thinking about passing an act to privatize certain aspects and areas of the internet for ‘Pay as you go” type service. Its not ludicrous to think that facebook would create a service (whether public or private) that would entail members to certain features by paying a monthly or even yearly fee. But at the same time they would never want to alienate the MILLIONS of people with a current facebook. Dont forget, ads that see that many people still make tons of money.
So as Jen said “If it does happen i’m sure a “fb 2? would emerge anyway.” Only facebook2 would most likely be your pay site. =D happy net creeping!

They make their money from advertising; they know no one will pay for facebook and just go to myspace instead. They won’t make anyone pay.

@ Patrick: While those kinds of “pay as you go” type services are certainly a possibility, I’m not sure how Facebook would be able to implement it what with all the third party apps it already allows. The reality is that much like all of the shareware or purchase computer programs have freeware counterparts, any service Facebook sets up could be easily copied with a third party app. Also, I’m not sure what federal legislation has to do with anything as “pay as you go” services have been implemented all over the inter-webs :S
But yes, I agree with the consensus that Facebook will never have to be payed for on a whole, and that anyone who believes that rubbish – like the 1.7 million people in the largest group against paying for it – need to get their heads screwed back on.
I will never pay for facebook. To remove the ads, just get firefox and install adblockplus. i haven’t seen a single ad the whole time ive been on FB. Also FB will NEVER become a pay site, it makes WAY too much money as it is now for people to even think about charging for it, they dont want to risk losing people since that’s where their revenue comes from.
I think they should start charging for Facebook. It might make people less apt to spend excessive amounts of time in a virtual world and more time in the, uh, real world.
Patrick, you’re confused about the net neutrality.
For the average user, surfing the internet and such will remain free, the only thing affected -as far as we are concerned- if the net is privatized is loading speeds of certain sites.

If people had to pay for facebook, then they would be inclined to check the website more often since they are now paying, therefore they will be at the computer more often. And facebook is “real life” anyways, ur chating with friends and looking at pictures. But i do agree that some people need to get away from the comp and go outside, so maybe the correct thing to do is make a time limit of 1 hour, so u can go on anytime, but only aloud on 1 hour every 24 hours. Therefore they customers are forced to leave and do other things once they were on to long.
It’s like charging for youtube… it never happened!
I wish they charge for facebook, so that I can cancel the account and spend more time in the real world again.

Facebook is a moneymaker and they make their money only because we use their site. They do need to answer to us. It is as simple as that!! Its us Users of Facebook that have the biggest say in its success!

Well alot of powerful thought has gone into these comments hasnt it.
If one person decided to click the link and join the group thats what 2.5minutes of their life wasted. If it provented them having to pay for the site or not, its not really a hell of a lot of time wasted. Therefore it shouldnt come down to a person or persons being stupid or nieve, to that fact that facebook will never charge, its a simple fact of lack of information to the comon computer or facebook user.
it’s already charging – it’s costing you time rather than money. Why time? well they’ll keep changing the interface until the time spent increases advertising click thru rates. As soon as FB starts to show zero revenue growth it’ll be sold and then it’s a new ballgame – personally i doubt that will happen but when it’s near zero growth expect to see commercial groups being charged for setting up. FB just needs advertisers to compete in order to increase bid prices so it stays free

I could see if Facebook charged a FEE for like a premium membership or something to knock down some things and make other features available, every great website has to charge something at some point. Do you really know how much it costs for bandwith and to keep all of your profiles and media files and other things on the network? Sure they got Click ads and advertisement but that only costs a fraction of the costs for running and having a website.
You should really analize why they would charge a fee and not really complain about it, or have a life and unplug your computer
Matt is making a lot of sense, as much as I love facebook and what it has done for my business and pleasure, fact is the cost of running fb is disproportional to the income, think of the things one wastes money on with less value……. Sugar based liquids?porn? etc. So I think its up to Facebook to be creative with it and make the customer pay without paying!

Revenue of 600 Million makes the sale price a few billion. Then the new owner is going to take a crap in his own cheerios so he can use the purchase as a write off? Yeah now there is an Einstein moment for ya. FB is a cash cow for whoever owns it. Myspace and the other freebies would crush FB within weeks.
I agree, just remember what they started with hotmail even.. that’s a FREE EMAIL SERVICE, advertised and socially described as FREE.. just like facebook… yet everywhere you turn people are sending these phony emails telling you “you must do this to ensure you are not one of the millions that will pay to use this site”…
