Content Theft From Online Newspapers

If you were wondering why Rupert Murdoch is so vehemently against allowing Google News to show his news, here’s why. A study conducted by Fair Syndication Consortium looked into the issue of content theft from online news sources and came up with its results after a month long study

75,195 unlicensed websites reproduced at least one article from a US newspaper in this time period

112,000 “near exact” copies of articles were published

Each article was reused an average of 4.4 times

Less than 10% of these unlicensed websites were blogs

53% of these unlicensed websites were monetized by Google. 19% by Yahoo
