It was same time last year that LiveUniverse, the online entertainment network founded by Brad Greenspan (also the founder of MySpace) acquired Peerflix. Peerflix was not in any great shape for an acquisition at that time. Founded in 2004 as a “peer to peer Netflix”, Peerflix could never get any real traction and by the time the acquisition happened in September 2008, had drastically changed from a DVD swapping service to an ad network.
Did the acquisition help LiveUniverse? I really doubt it.Ever since the acquisition happened, the traffic has been on a free-fall. Today, I am unable to open the website. And the traffic chart from Compete points to a very sorry picture.
So, the question is, ‘Is Peerflix – the ad network still alive?’ or did we miss something? According to the Peerflix page on Crunchbase, the Peerflix ad network had struck deals to provide ad inventory to popular blogs like TheMovieBlog, AnimeMojo, BadMovies, etc. but currently none of these sites have been serving ads from Peerflix. TheMovieBlog, which was incidentally acquired by Peerflix before themselves being acquired by LiveUniverse have done well ever since by moving out.
So, as things stand, Peerflix is over. Will update you if we get any updates about this.
