Growth of Mobile Market in Rural India
There are over 300 million mobile phones in India. 25 million new mobile phones were added from April to June 2008. Of this, 8 million were from villages. On an average 30 percent of mobile phones added are from rural India.
75% of these mobile phones are connected by BSNL. 62% of these phones cost less than $50.

Which Country Has the Largest Number of Broadband Lines
China and USA were tied at 78 million broadband lines in the end of August. However, the rate of growth in USA has been slower than China. The number of new broadband lines was just 1.1 million in the second quarter of 2008 in USA. Compare this with 5 million new broadband lines in China.
China hence now leads in the number of broadband lines worldwide.

Is Mobile Advertising Effective?
Mobile advertising offers an excellent recall, according to a recent survey by Nielsen. Here are a few numbers from the respondents:
23% (58 million US mobile subscribers) recalled seeing an ad on the mobile in the previous one month
46% of subscribers in the age group 13-17 years recalled seeing an ad on the mobile; compared to 29% in the other age groups
42% of Asian Americans and 40% of African Americans recalled seeing mobile ads in the previous one month
26% of respondents who recalled seeing a mobile ad accepted to have responded to the ad at least once.
32% of users were open to mobile advertising if it helped to reduce the bill
14% of users were open to mobile ads if pertained to their interests.
